Light, Color, & Glass

The way light and color change with the daylight and the seasons grabs my attention. I want to reflect that in my artwork and I’ve found the medium of glass allows me to do that.

Glass feels more durable during these uncertain times and it brings with it the ability to capture the unique light at any particular moment.

The work is constantly changing with the light and the environment it finds itself in. Painting on glass allows me to layer color and adds this unpredictable element of daylight.

Light can heal and transform. Stained glass art has used this potential for centuries.

Can we heal ourselves and our planet with the help of art and light?

I don’t know but the idea excites me. Nature needs our attention. We need to notice and hold onto the connections. I hope my work can begin to express this.

Painting on Glass

The technique of painting on glass is difficult. Much has been lost or kept guarded over the centuries. Discovering and mastering some of these ancient techniques is thrilling to me.

Working on glass has opened up a new adventure in art making for me. It’s pushed my work to incorporate more design elements. It’s opened up the world of stained-glass craft and lead me to explore the deep history of stained-glass art both historically and spiritually.

I’ve been able to draw from many of my printmaking skills and am continually learning new approaches. These evolving art challenges continue to be an endless fascination for me that should keep me heading to the studio for years to come!
